Guizhou Province holds a great reputation not only in China but also worldwide. In this southwest region of China, other than its stunning scenery so verdant and calm, it is known for its fertile soil and rich vegetation as well as its ethnic diversity.
Guizhou is one of the areas inhabited by ethnic minorities. There are in total 17 ethnic minorities living there, including sizable populations of the Miao, Dong, Gela and Buyi people. Every nationality has its own folkways and customs. The elegant Miao, the passionate Yi, and the unsophisticated Dong. What's more, in this year's Chinese New Year Gala, we would present you the refined Miao traditional costumes, the exquisite batik as well as their distinguished musical instruments.
As a part of the Year of Rat Chinese New Year celebration, Guizhou Song and Dance Troupe is coming to Edinburgh with a spectacular program of singing and dancing. Established in 1956, Guizhou Song and Dance Troupe is the largest performing organisation in Guizhou Province. It is highly influential in its region, specialising in artistic creation that features the ethnic characteristics of Guizhou. On 21 January 2020, this performance will be a showcase of the charms of Guizhou people.
