Music to celebrate Easter

John’s programme will include an Offertoire for Easter Day by the French composer Boëly and Guilmant’s Paraphrase on ‘See the conquering hero comes’ based on the  well-known tune by Handel.  There will also be music by Bach,  Healey Willan,  and the celebrated Easter hymn from Cavalleria Rusticana  by Mascagni.

Organ music by Franz Liszt

A programme entirely of works by Liszt,  including both original organ pieces and transcriptions of his own and  other composers’ music.   The main piece is his dramatic Variations on ‘Weinen, Klagen,  Sorgen,  Zagen’;  shorter works include Tu es Petrus,  the Ave Maria von Arcadelt, the Adagio in D flat  and a version of Mozart’s famous Ave verum corpus.

Masterworks from the Netherlands

All the music in today’s programme is Dutch,  and includes works by the 17th-century master Sweelinck, as well as more recent pieces by Feike Asma, Cor Kee and Hendrik Andriessen.
