10:30am, Tuesday 24 October 2017 Lauriston Castle
Lauriston Castle was built in the late sixteenth century as an inheritance for the judge Sir Alexander Napier whose horoscope can be seen, carved in stone, in the front of the castle. This lecture explores the meaning of the horoscope, and the lives of Sir Alexander, his friends and family, including his half-brother of John Napier, the inventor of logarithms.
Dr Jane Ridder-Patrick gained her PhD in History from the University of Edinburgh. Her speciality is astrology in early modern Scotland.
