Author Ian Rankin discusses how he created John Rebus, from where he got his inspiration, to how he conducts his research, revealing the character and the psyche behind one of the world's most famous fictional detectives.   Ian will be joined by a panel of experts to discuss Edinburgh’s criminal underworld, past and present, as well as forensics and detectives from Police Scotland to uncover what happens in a real crime investigation.   Making a Detective is part of RebusFest, a weekend of events celebrating the 30th anniversary of Ian Rankin's Rebus novels.  For more information please visit www.ianrankin.net
