Music simply doesn’t get any more romantic than Tchaikovsky’s sweeping Fifth Symphony. Tchaikovsky asked for it to be played ‘with passion and desire’, and under guest conductor John Storgårds it’ll make a perfect complement to Bernard Herrmann’s stunning score for Hitchcock’s Vertigo. Latvian violinist Baiba Skride, meanwhile, could have been born to play the luscious violin concerto by Erich Korngold – the Viennese genius who defined the ‘Hollywood sound’.
