The music of Elgar has always been strongly represented in Sinfonia programmes over the orchestra's entire history and this concert provides a rich harvest of some of his most beautiful music.
'The Kingdom' has been most unjustly neglected and we hope to redress this balance by performing some of the most stirring yet poignant parts of this glorious work. Elgar was at the height of his creative powers when he completed his Symphony no. 2. It was dedicated to the memory of Edward VII but the real story of the genesis of the work goes rather deeper than that ...
