Scottish Sinfonia: Strauss, Rachmaninoff and Respighi

7:30pm, Sunday 01 September 2019 St Cuthbert's Parish Church

Strauss - Also Sprach Zarathustra

Verdi - Overture to 'La Forza del Destino'

Rachmaninoff - Piano Concerto no1 in F# minor (Soloist Jill Morton)

Respighi - The Pines of Rome

Although the Festival fireworks will be over, our opening concert provides an explosive combination of musical experiences! The capacity audience who witnessed Jill Morton's stunning performance of Rachmaninoff's third piano concerto in 2017 will need no encouragement to hear her in his first. Fireworks of a contrasting nature are provided by Respighi's Pines of Rome - a multi coloured kaleidoscope celebrating  the Eternal City, whilst Strauss's Zarathustra is a virtuosic orchestral showpiece in which Sinfonia's 100 musicians plus organ can be heard in full cry! Verdi's dramatic Force of Destiny overture completes this exciting programme.
