Berlioz: Overture to "Béatrice et Bénédict"
Elgar: 'Cello Concerto in E minor
soloist: Robin Michael
Fauré: Incidental Music to Shylock
soloist: James Slimings (tenor)
Chausson: Symphony in B♭ major

Conducted by Neil Mantle

Elgar’s elegiac Concerto for ‘Cello, written in the shadow of World War 1, always makes a deep impression upon listeners - and this occasion will be no exception, especially as our soloist is an old friend of the orchestra - Robin Michael - whose performance of the Dvořák Concerto with us in 2017 was so well received.
Like his contemporary César Franck, Chausson wrote but one symphony before his untimely death at the age of forty four. If you enjoy listening to Franck’s work then you will certainly find this an exciting discovery.
Speaking of discoveries, Fauré’s delightful incidental music to Shylock is almost unknown in this country, and we offer you a unique opportunity to hear it live.
