Rachmaninov
Vocalise opus 34

Piano Concerto no. 4 in G (soloist: Adam Davies)
Symphony no. 2 in E minor

Conducted by Neil Mantle

This concert marks the culmination of our complete cycle of Rachmaninov’s works for piano and orchestra with the hugely demanding fourth concerto, which our soloist Adam Davies - making his first appearance with us - is fully equipped to meet. If this concerto has been unjustly neglected, the Second Symphony is the best loved of Rachmaninov’s three works in this genre, being brim full of luscious melody from start to finish. It is, arguably, THE most romantic of any of the Russian Romantic symphonic works and will be given the full treatment by the ninety-odd musicians who comprise Sinfonia!
