Hollins’s early life was spent in Yorkshire, but in the last decade of the 19th century he came to Edinburgh as organist of Free St George’s Church in Shandwick Place. As well as his work as a church  organist, he  launched on a career as a celebrated international  recitalist, visiting the USA,  South Africa, New Zealand and Australia—all the more remarkable as he was blind from birth.   This programme includes examples of his tuneful style:  the Concert Overture in CA Trumpet Minuet and the Song of Sunshine—as well as music by his friend William Wolstenholme (The Seraph’s Strain)  and other pieces selected from Hollins’s recital programmes.
